How to mix powder pigment correctly
- Mixing
Mixing powder pigment is simple, but the right method has a clear effect on how the colour turns out.
The most important thing is to wet the pigment well and work slowly. If you add too much liquid at once, the pigment may not disperse evenly.
Start with a small amount
First prepare the amount of pigment you need. Add a small amount of a suitable medium and begin to work the pigment in gradually.
Do not rush. The aim is a homogeneous mixture with no dry clumps.
Mix thoroughly
Pigment can stay caught on the bottom or the sides of the container. It is therefore important to mix the blend thoroughly and check its consistency.
The more evenly the pigment is dispersed, the more even the resulting colour will be.
Experiment with concentration
The amount of pigment affects the intensity of the final colour. A higher concentration creates a bolder, more opaque effect, while more medium can produce a more transparent layer.
The ability to change the concentration is one of the main advantages of working with powder pigments.
A well-prepared mixture is the basis for a clean, even and predictable result.
